Lisa's Surgery

Hello All!

Lisa's surgery has been scheduled for August 14th. In the beginning of July Lisa had another blood clot for which she had to be hospitalized and monitored.  Because of this blood clot her doctors decided to remove her port-o-cath early, and she did not receive her final two chemo treatments.  The tumor responded very well to treatment and shrunk considerably.  Lisa has been blessed in that her only major side effect (aside from hair loss) has been fatigue.

Please pray for Lisa to keep up her strength and to ease her nerves about surgery.

Thanks for keeping up!

Dirty Girl Mud Run

Hello All!  So Lisa posted a comment about the Mud Run for cancer I did in May, but I thought I would write you a blog post about it too.

On May 5, 2012 I participated in the Dirty Girl Mud Run in Sranton, PA.  Dirty Girl Mud Run is a national event that commits 2.5% of all race registration fees and sales of mechandise to the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.  I actually registered to run the race before I found out that Lisa had breast cancer.  However, after learning of her cancer, I knew that I was going to run the race in honor of Lisa's fight against breast cancer.

The race was a 5K (3.1 miles) which I've never done all at once before.  I didn't really train because I knew that I would be doing the race with TONS of other women of all abilities.  It took me 1 hour and 20 minutes to finish, but I was proud that I completed it.  There were quite a few mud pits, ropes to assit climbing down hills, tire (knee highs) and hanging tires, but the best obstacle was the cargo net.  The cargo net had two sides that were each at 45 degree angle.  I enjoy climbing and heights, so it was definitely my favorite obstacle.

When I finished the race, I felt so good knowing that I was doing this for in honor of Lisa.  She is now receiving weekly treatments of chemo therapy.  Please continue to pray that the tumor keeps shrinking and that Lisa will be able to have surgey when the fall comes.

thanks for following the blog!

Lisa's First Chemo Treatments

Hello All!
This blog is to give friends, family and prayer warriors updates regarding Lisa's fight against breast cancer.

Here is the latest update:
Lisa had the minor surgery to get her port-o-cath installed on Monday 3/5/12.  She will receive all her chemo treatments via this port.  She has now received two chemo treatments, and will be receiving her third treatment week of 4/2-4/6.  Lisa's hair began falling out quite noticeably last week so she made the decision to have her head shaved on Tuesday 3/27/12.  Her sister Tina accompanied her, and Lisa is now wearing her wig which looks pretty darn good.

After her first chemo treatment she did have quite a bit of nausea, but is feeling better.  On 3/31 she was in the hospital for a blood clot, but she received treatment and is now taking blood thinners to cure the clot.

Please pray for wisdom for the doctors and oncologists treating Lisa and for continued strength as she will be getting weekly chemo treatments too.
